World Assembly Delegate's Report
January 17, 2014
Happy Friday, Dux Milan!
Every night or every few nights, I'll post a report on significant WA activity at the major update. Just so everyone is on the same page, "major update" refers to the update of nation stats, regional standings, and World Assembly facts that occurs every night at midnight, eastern standard. There is also a "minor update" at noon eastern standard.
Anyway, until the Dux Council meets for the first time, and then establishes some rules regarding the Delegacy and voting (or until I do so), I'll simply be voting based on my preferences. I know this is the opposite of democratic, but I'll try to provide a justification for my actions. If any nation disagrees with my vote and can articulate why, I'll be happy to change my vote. I serve at your pleasure, and you trust me with your votes. Don't be afraid to speak up, TG me, throw things, etc. I'm very much open to discussion about this. "Right to Emigration" was passed in the General Assembly, 9,000 to 2,00, which is a pretty decisive victory in the GA. "Repeal 'International Radio Act'" is next in the queue, and I've decided to vote for that resolution. The repeal itself is solid, and there's a great replacement draft here: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=277283. And no, I'm not just giving it a plug because I'm listed as a co-author. I'm not familiar with Lasseiz Fairholm, the region currently up for commendation in the Security Council, so I've decided to abstain from that vote. I also believe it's a pretty weak resolution, and it's well on its way to a landslide defeat without our votes. If you're a WA nation, you can help draft resolutions! Even if you aren't a member in the WA, you get a say in what the WA will do in your region: all you have to do is visit the General Assembly forum and let your voice be heard! If you have any questions about the World Assembly, post below and I'll be happy to answer them. TGIF! -PB

World Assembly Delegate's Report - Minor Update January 20, 2014
I know, I know, "Why not just wait 12 hours and give us all a proper update, you lazy bastard?" Well, I'm not a bastard, and I doubt I'll have the willpower to do so later. The World Assembly is a predictable monster, so here's my projections for the next few days.
"Repeal 'International Radio Act'" has come along quite nicely. After its victory, we'll see "Radiowaves and Microwaves Act" enter the proposal queue. I strongly support that act as a replacement, and I think the author is one of the rising stars in the WA. Anyway, "Repeal 'On Abortion'" is next, which opens the floodgates for yet another abortion law. Anyway, after that is the "Industrial Pollution Control Act," which I dangerously flawed, and caught in the "NationStates is exactly like Real Life" sinkhole. NS is nothing like RL, and some nations have never experienced any sort of climate change, EVER! This is a basic tenet of the WA that I wanted to share with you all.
Meanwhile, in the other snakepit, A proposal to Liberate SLAVIA is now on the floor. The SC was without an act to vote on for three updates, which is normal business. There are a lot fewer delegates working in that side of the hall, in general, and they're also very limited in what they can actually work on. That said, I feel this "Liberate" act is an important one. SLAVIA was raided by imperialistic regions who seek to create vast empires of regions, and then defend them from other imperialists. They're sort of right in the middle of the R/D spectrum, using the game to their advantage. Anyway, "Liberate" proposals remove password-protection imposed by hostile delegates so natives can come back home and (hopefully) elect their own delegate. I'll be voting FOR that act.
Once again, if anyone disagrees with my votes, please speak up! I serve at your pleasure. If you have any questions about anything I've rambled about here, don't be afraid to ask. (Maybe a little afraid). I encourage the WA members of DM to vote with me, but you are of course free to do whatever the hell you like. Have a great holiday (for those of us in the states, anyway)!

World Assembly Delegate's Report
January 22, 2014Hello everyone, Currently on the floor, we have "Repeal 'On Abortion'", which is one of the closest races I've ever seen, and "Liberate Slavia", which is well on its way to passing. The latest GA repeal strips a law that takes a surprisingly strong pro-choice stance in the World Assembly. Earlier today, the votes were seriously neck and neck, but it looks closer to passing now. Abortion is one of the most contentious topics in all of politics, so it should be no surprise that there are now five different replacements being offered. Personally, I voted for the repeal, 1) because I saw Dux Milan voting 4-0 in favor, 2) because I agree with the logic of the repeal, and 3) I believe the World Assembly is better off not taking a stance on this issue. We can accomplish this through the passage of a blocker, which is an act designed to severely limit the possible options for future legislation on a topic. The Nuclear Arms Possession Act is the perfect blocker. It leaves the Global Disarmament/Int. Security categories open, it requires member states to actually do something, and it makes any other proposal on nuclear arms possession invalid for either duplication or contradiction. I would support an abortion blocker if it came to the floor, however none of the acts cited above have been submitted yet. Coming up, we'll have the Industrial Pollution Control Act, which I've touched on before, and a few drafts that I've worked very hard on with the authors and I'm excited to see them reach quorum. More on these as they come to us. The proposal to liberate in the SC will pass easily. There wasn't much doubt of this. I also don't have much to say about it. There are currently two proposals in the Security Council, and neither are quite close to reaching quorum, so I'll cross that bridge when we get to it. Song of the day: Enjoy!

World Assembly Delegate's Report
January 25, 2014Hello, DM! hou First off, congrats to Sword and Shield for winning the first regional election ( technically you ran unopposed but we don't have to tell anyone) and rounding out the Dux Council. I'm looking forward to working with you and the other members very soon! Ok, I'll do my job now, promise! The Industrial Pollution Control Act is now at vote, and I strongly urge Dux Milan to stand opposed to this law. I'll now be voting according to DM votes, so please read the act, read the debate thread on the General Assembly forum, and vote knowledgeably. I've stated why I opposed this act previously, but as some have pointed out, there's also a typo that dramatically changes the meaning of a certain clause, which is a damning error. tl;dr, it's crap. Moving on, the Security Council is currently without a resolution, however "Commend NewTexas" was recently submitted. Texas is one of the most active regions in the game and, for one reason or another, NewTexas is very well liked. I expect it to come to a vote soon. There are two proposals on the GA floor right now that are totally nonsensical. I implore the WA nations of Dux Milan to consult with General Assembly regulars before submitting a draft. If any WA nations of Dux Milan are interested in the World Assembly or have an idea for a proposal, please let me know and I'll be happy to help you any way I can! I'm planning something really cool for the Delegate's office soon. Stay tuned for more info! KCCO! -PB

World Assembly Delegate's Report
January 28, 2014
Happy Tuesday!
Whoa, what happened there? Sorry for shouting.
I'm a little perturbed that the slimy excuse of a law "Industrial Pollution Control" passed by a good margin. Never fear, there's an insta-repeal ready to go, prepared by the delegates from Auralia. An insta-repeal is a proposal submitted immediately on the heels of what a great many WA regulars to believe to be dangerously flawed acts that passed by a fluke. This is quite common, actually, since many delegates will just approve every proposal, and individual nations will vote for what sounds good, ignoring the actual in-game ramifications. If anyone has a question about how the WA laws impact their nation, please let me know and I'll be happy to explain it to you!
Up next in the GA is "Repeal 'Protect War Correspondents.'" The Security Council is going to pass "Commend NewTexas" by a wide margin, which is helping to (slowly) restore my faith in the festering snakepit. There are two proposals in the SC, but I don't expect either of them to reach quorum.
Also, s/o to Austrur for getting the ball rolling in the Dux Council! Remember, everyone is welcome to voice their concerns in the open forum!
Safe travels, PB

World Assembly Delegate's Report
February 2, 2014
Good Evening, DM!
In Festering Snakepit #1, less affectionately known as the General Assembly, the Repeal resolution passed easily. Next up, Civilian Protection Accord! I've been really looking forward to this vote, as it's my first foray into WA drafting in over a year! I encourage you guys to read the draft and offer your comments. While we can't make any changes (you can't edit proposals once they're submitted), they might help other voters make a decision.
Still nothing in the Security Council...sigh... being an SC author must be boring,,,
Anyway, I've been thinking, and I think we should start up a WA proposal drafting workshop! We could discuss whatever's at vote, brainstorm repeals and new legislation, and help each other draft our proposals. Let me know what you think either here, in the RMB, or through a TG, if you're secretive. I'm pretty clueless about how to put this together, so please give me your thoughts!
Stay golden. -PB

World Assembly Delegate's Report
February 7, 2014
Good evening, Dux Milan!
I know I'm a little early, but I'm busy for the rest of the night, so here it is.
The Civilian Protection Accord was defeated in the General Assembly by a wide margin, but a redraft is currently underway. At vote now is the Radiowaves and Microwaves act, a treaty meant to solve instances of radio interference between member nations. Please read it and give me your thoughts. Voting is currently 0-2 in the region.
In the Security Council, I encourage all nations to find the original debate thread for Liberate NAZI EUROPE, as it is very insightful regarding the history of the Security Council. It was a landmark decision in the Raiding/Defending game, since Nazi Europe was "liberated" even though a native delegate was in control, to allow "benevolent" nations to raid it, since the players roleplay as National Socialist governments. Quite controversial, any way you look at it. That resolution is still in effect, as Liberations don't "expire." The repeal effort is passing, but narrowly, and I'd encourage DM nations to vote FOR it.
That' all for tonight, stay warm if you're in the States (or anywhere cold, I guess) and remember to share your thoughts with the Council!!!
Oh, and thanks to Austrur for the nod for Foreign Affairs Secretary. Good luck as Immigration Minister!
