It seems that over the past week, Dux Milan has garnered some attention from some very unwanted sources. Last week, our WA Delegacy was briefly toppled by an unknown entity and, today, a nation called The Kings Crusaders moved in and out of the region to instill doubt in Point Breeze's election to The Dux Council.
I'd like to hear from our member states on this one. Our Council is not yet in operation and our region remains vulnerable due to a low amount of WA nations. Is this becoming a problem that will hamper recruitment efforts or just a nuisance?

I don't believe this is anything to be concerned about. Yes, it may hamper recruiting, but only in nations well-informed enough to know what is going on. I agree with Gaed's comments in the other thread that stressed moderation and restraint. We can't become a region known for its hostility and distrust. I'm not saying we should accept these silly games either, but I'm unsure of what the real answer could be.

The answer is a password.

I think a password is a drastic step, especially considering we have a non-executive delegate. They don't pose a danger to the region, it's just an annoyance. Setting a password might be seen as reactionist and isolationist, which are not positions I'd like this region to adopt. However, such an action would (hopefully) come through an act of the Council, which I'll support if passed.

Passwords are almost always a death knell for any region, as they stifle growth and hamper recruitment. I think that this is really more of a nuisance than a security threat: We have an active dedicated founder, and a non-executive WA delegate (who can't do much harm). The worst that happens is that we lose the delegacy until you eject the offending nations, as happened earlier, but nothing particular damaging. With more nations, this problem will be solved.

I won't submit any proposal for a password into our Council, because it would fail. I also agree with several of the nations here upon further reflection, perhaps a password would create too much of a barrier for growth.
I'm just at a loss. It saddens me that we have to put up with spam and wild accusations on our regional message boards. I do wish there was more I could do in my powers as founder to alleviate this problem.

Gaed put forward an interesting idea in the debate thread about instituting an interview process for new members. I've never heard of anything like that, and I'm not sure I agree. I have my comments, but I'd like to hear some other opinions first.

I'm a little put off at an interviewing process. What types of answers would garner a "no" response from the region? What types of answers would be acceptable?
I'm not to keen on barring nations that have past ties to raiders from the region. Dux Milan is supposed to be a region that was created for all nations and political ideologies to join if they'd like. I don't know how we would get around discrimination and profiling with these "interviews."
I would also be very unwilling to comply with an interview, as a prospective member. If you think a password is a barrier to growth, try asking a nation to answer six or seven questions before entering the region. Most would just say "next!"
I don't think Dux Milan should discriminate against nations that may give unsatisfactory answers. That's going a bit too far. It's funny though, Gaed accuses me of being unprofessional and blowing everything out of proportion and, almost in the same breath, proposes his own over-reaction (interviews) to address this issue.
Gaed, you can't have it both ways. At least a password disallows discrimination from entering the equation...an interviewing process most certainly does not.

I don't think discrimination is the goal, and it was certainly an interesting and original idea. I agree with the concerns you raised, and I also fear it creates too much of an "us vs. them," "guilty until proven innocent" complex domestically.

At the moment, we don't have any imminent threats. Why don't we hold off debate on this matter until the Council convenes in a few days, so that we can let ourselves cool off a bit.
