For Immediate Release: A Statement Regarding A Raider's Comments in the Regional Message Board
TO: All nations of Dux Milan
FR: The Regency of Point Breeze, Office of the Delegate
SUBJ: Raider's Comments and Allegiance to Dux Milan
DATE: 14 JAN 2014
Good afternoon, all. If it hasn't been suppressed by the Dux yet, you may have noticed the following remarks from one of our dear raider friends in the regional message board made approximately 2:15 PM, Eastern Standard.
I want to point out that, at the time of this writing, we have no intelligence to suggest these raiders are affiliated with the Black Riders, who, as I understand, practice a degree of professionalism and maturity not found in these infantile allegations. Add to that representatives close to the inner circles of TBR have repeatedly denied any connection to the raiders that have been harassing our region. I understand a great many of our members have a distaste of raiding and raiders in general, but I want to stress that such animosity should not be misplaced. These are the actions of an independent few, not an attack by one of the most successful and well-organized raiding regions in the world.
Secondly, and most importantly, I, Point Breeze, have no connection to The Holy Empire of the Kings Crusader, The Most Serene Republic of the Shattered Oasis, The Armed Republic of Mercenary Pit, or any other raiders, independent or organized. I have always and will continue to be committed to the success of Dux Milan since I arrived here. I am not, I assure you, destined to destroy the region, and I have no knowledge of a "plan" in place for the takeover of the region.
Please don't allow these idiotic ramblings to sway your opinion of myself or this office. They are without foundation and clearly false.

Point Breeze:
You have absolutely nothing to worry about. Anybody stupid enough to be fooled by these immature allegations needs to be more worried about their own gullibility than the region.

I have been thinking about this whole debacle.
I go onto nationstates to RP. It's not like an actual game; there is no goal. What you can do is interact with people. For me, that means building a government with others in a region. For some, it means destroying regions. I'm not one to complain about it, since I have the capability to do so also. It's not cheating. A region has the ability to protect itself from raiders. In short, I don't care about raiders unless they mess with the region I'm in, but that's not really a scenario that can happen without the founders will. I stay with a nation I trust as region executive if I don't want to be bothered with raiders.
I believe the "raid" on our region to be quite an unprofessional one. and to be frank, I believe our Dux's reaction was unprofessional as well. Alert the members of the region, fine, but to go declaring it to the world and pointing fingers leaves us open to harassment like this, where people see that members of our region are bothered and can make claims like this to shake up the region. The Black Riders are a more professional enemy. They are the "hardcore" raiders of nationstates. This wasn't TBR.
My suggestion? Try and put this behind us. As a region, we overreacted to a simple amatuer raid. It is the first of what I'm sure will be many within the region. If we react like this every time, we are going to have even more independants trying to "troll" us. That's a hassle. There might be a time where a more professional raiding group threatens Dux Milan. We'll be prepared. We can set up legislation so that if the day comes when the Black Riders turn their heads towards us, we can defend. Though I'm not a council member, I would suggest tightening laws that regulate entry into Dux Milan. I have ideas of how to do so, but I'll let that wait until the debate about the proper way to go about this when it comes.

Gaed, I will admit that I over-reacted. I have been considering having the Council implement a password on Dux Milan, which would be handed out to members of the Council and nations willing to recruit. It would also protect our region from these types of things.
I don't believe a password would hamper our growth either. If a nation is interested, just give them the password. Simple as that. If they're not bothered enough to ask for a password if they're interested...they probably aren't a very active nation.

Perhaps we should wait for a future incident that threatens our security, before instituting a password. If our clandestine threat appears to be more of a nuisance than a legitimate security threat, we should proceed as normal. However, if there are serious concerns - by all means, implement a password.

That is why it should be the Dux Council's decision. I don't want these "attacks" to become a frequent occurrence but I also don't want to restrict freedom of travel to, and from, Dux Milan. It's a bit of a predicament but if the nations of Dux Milan are willing to deal with the nuisances, there is no need to institute a password. It should be decided upon vote.

I will also say, having read some of the statements from members, that I am backing off of a password. Feeding into the trolls is how Sword and Shield put it, let's not change the fabric of our region because of these few nations.
